Tucson, AZ (October 23, 2020) – One man has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. On October 15, the Tucson Police Department responded to the site of a crash on North Balboa Avenue.

Reports provided by authorities show that 49-year-old Henry Varelas was riding a bicycle on North Balboa Avenue when he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection with Blacklidge Drive. Varelas sustained critical injuries in the crash and was rushed to Banner University Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the truck remained at the scene of the accident and spoke to law enforcement following the crash. The driver was not injured in the accident.

On October 21, authorities announced that Varelas succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
